Some books get read a few hundred times before a kid outgrows them, and those are the ones that build a love of reading. We carry children's books for every stage, starting with chew-proof board books for infants and children's picture books for toddlers, then early reader books and educational books for older children. Each children's book is chosen with a child's natural curiosity and development in mind, and we pick as much for the illustration as the story. These are premium, natural, beautifully illustrated books that make meaningful gifts and everyday treasures for growing families.
It helps to shop by where your child is as a reader. Babies need durable, tactile board books that can take a beating, like the washable Indestructibles line. Toddlers move up to a picture book built around a main character to root for, like the Jellycat stories. A good main character is one a child asks for again, and the shelf continues through early reader books and into classic children’s literature for the older child, like a collection of Classic Stories for a 5-year-old that includes the classic Fairy Tales every family loves. You’ll also find soothing bedtime story books, plus nature and sensory books.
Board books and the Indestructibles line survive teething, drool, and a run through the sink. A favorite book ought to outlast the toddler years, not the month.
A young child reads the pictures long before the words, so a good illustration sets off a whole story in their head. Animal characters and make-believe worlds give a child room to invent, and the best stories hand them a best friend to ask for again and again.
A first book can be cloth or board. From there the shelf climbs through picture books and easy readers into early chapter books and middle grade, and the same kid keeps finding the next one.
The Natural Baby Company is a women-owned shop in Bozeman, Montana. We carry natural, educational things for kids up to age ten, and we're picky about what makes the shelf. Next to the children's books you'll find wooden toys, dolls, and gift sets for new babies.
What We Offer
Our selection covers baby board books, children's picture books, and early readers, with a stack of nature and animal books that tell the true story of bugs and animals. You'll find the classics, funny picture books, nursery rhyme collections, and Jellycat story books that match their plush buddies. It's a good start to a kid's children's literature, and plenty of titles double as a first book or a baby shower gift.
A book is about the easiest gift to give and the hardest to outgrow. Have a look through the full collection for your child's next favorite book, or add a few to a baby registry for a family just starting their library.
Look for board books and cloth books with thick pages, rounded corners, and big pictures. The Indestructibles line is rip-proof and washable, built for young children who want to chew and grab, and it keeps words to a minimum so you can talk through the pictures together. Goodnight Moon and the other classics make an easy start to a bedtime routine.
For a new reader, an easy reader is the place to start, with short sentences and words that repeat so a child can get through a page on their own. An easy reader sits between a picture book and a chapter book, and it's the natural next step once a young reader knows their letters and sounds.
Yes. A picture book, or a small stack of favorite picture books, is a thoughtful gift for a baby shower, birthday, or new sibling. A story about a best friend or a true story from nature both go over well, and plenty of people pair a book with a plush friend or drop a few into a gift set.
Start with what your child already likes. A child who loves animals will reach for a picture book full of animal characters and nature titles, and one who likes to laugh will want funny picture books. Reading it aloud in the shop, or flipping through the illustration, tells you fast if it will become a favorite.
